JACK'S BUCKETLIST

Well, we've been able to fullfill someone's bucketlist wish here at Peetree Stables. There is an elderly couple in our neighbourhood - Jack and Joan. Jack is 80, Joan is 76. Both are getting fairly feeble but still have lots of spunk. It's a matter of the mind is willing but the body is weak. Fronie brought them to my attention as they are the parents of one of her friends. Jack was always involved with horses. Used them for transportation, hauling wood and working in the garden. Whenever Fronie talked about Skipper and that we were using him in cart, Jack's eyes would light up. He always said that he wished he could go for one more cart ride before he died. So we made his wish come true. On Saturday 20 March 2010 Jack, Joan and two of their daughters came over for the afternoon. What a time "he and the Missus" had! Skipper was the perfect gentleman and really listened to Jack. At first Joan was afraid of him - she hadn't been involved with the horses - too busy raising a huge family. By the end of the cart ride she was hugging him and kissing him (Skipper - not Jack). It was no easy task getting the two of them aboard the cart because their legs don't work that well anymore. Nothing a stool couldn't solve though. For that brief time that afternoon, it was like Jack and Joan were teenagers again. Talk about giggling!

We had so much fun that we had them and some other friends over for supper last night. At the end of the evening one of Jack's daughters pulled me aside and told me that Jack had just been diagnosed with cancer in most of his major organs. He goes in for a biopsy early next week. It brought me to tears, but I was comforted knowing that I had been able to fill his Bucketlist while there was still time.

PS - I don't know how to add more than one video/picture at a time so I'll post the other ones right after this one.
